Tsion Academy Launches Project 16 to Commemorate International Day of the Boy Child

In commemoration of the 2025 International Day of the Boy Child which is scheduled for 16th May, 2025 Tsion Academy, a brain child of Evolufy Africa, has officially launched its Project 16 to get sixteen (16) young boys back to school.

Announcing the launch, Abayomi Adeola Della mentioned that the "Project 16 is an urgent call to action to help us sponsor 16 boys and help them return to school on or before the 16th of May, 2025." Also referencing the launch of Tsion Academy's second school facility and the successful management of the first, Della further stated that “we have seen firsthand, how access to education transforms lives, so this May, let's make sure no boy is left behind”.

This project is coming as a response to the disturbing increase in the number of out-of-school children in low income communities. With millions of children in Africa out of school, of which many of them are young boys affected by poverty, conflict, and displacement, Tsion Academy is rallying individuals, families, and organizations to help these young ones stand in the gap by sponsoring them to school. The initiative is part of the organization's broader commitment to equitable, quality education for all children.

At the launch, Della emphasised the fact that the International Day of the Boy Child, is a day set aside to recognize and address the unique challenges (such as the lack of access to quality education) faced by boys around the world. It emphasizes the importance of nurturing, educating, and supporting boys so they can grow into responsible, emotionally healthy, and empowered men. According to her, this day is significant because it:

  • Highlights Gender-Specific Challenges: While girls often receive necessary attention in global advocacy (rightly so), many boys face silent struggles such as higher school dropout rates, mental health stigma, and involvement in child labor or gang activity.
  • Promotes Healthy Masculinity: It encourages societies to raise boys in emotionally supportive environments that foster empathy, emotional intelligence, and respect for others, thus countering harmful stereotypes about manhood.
  • Advocates for Equal Educational Access: In some regions, especially conflict zones or low-income communities, boys are also vulnerable to missing out on schooling due to economic pressure, recruitment into violence, or neglect.
  • Raising Awareness of Mental Health: Boys are often less encouraged to speak about emotions or seek help. The day advocates for breaking the stigma around boys' mental and emotional well-being.
  • Balancing Gender Discussions: The International Day of the Boy Child doesn’t compete with International Day of the Girl Child (Oct 11), but complements it, thus emphasizing that both boys and girls need attention and care to build a balanced, just society.
In essence, the International Day of the Boy Child is about affirming the worth, dignity, and potential of every boy, ensuring that they are not overlooked in development agendas, education policies, or social reforms.

Also commenting on the project, Nelson Vincent Ayomitunde, who serves as the Director of Communications at Tsion Academy, mentioned that “this International Day of the Boy Child, we’re inviting "big brothers", "big sisters", and people with extraordinary hearts to give 16 boys the gift of education. For Tsion Academy, this is more than a donation. It’s a declaration that every boy matters and deserves the chance to dream, learn, and lead.”

Why does the Project 16 Matter?

Simple! While global education efforts often focus on girls and rightly so, many vulnerable boys are silently falling behind. Some are forced into child labour, and others into street survival. By investing in their education, we open up opportunities for leadership, stability, and long-term change in our communities.

The Project 16 Sponsorship Package Covers:

  • Tuition and enrollment fees
  • School uniforms and supplies
  • Basic nutrition and wellness support
  • Mentorship and follow-up through the Tsion Academy

Sponsors can support one or more boys directly, or make a general donation toward the campaign.

Deadline for Sponsorship: May 15, 2025
