Celebrating World Children’s Day

Our governments have failed them. Should we do the same too?

20th November is World Children's Day and it marks the day when the member countries of the United Nations made an important promise to children, back in 1989.

It was called the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and it is a list of rules protecting children's rights across the world.

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an important agreement by countries who have promised to protect children's rights. It explains who children are, all their rights, and the responsibilities of governments. All the rights are connected, they are all equally important and they cannot be taken away from children.

As it concerns us at Tsion Academy, the right of access to education belongs to every child. Primary education should be free. Secondary and higher education should be available to every child. Children should also be encouraged to go to school to the highest level possible.

And discipline in schools should respect children's rights and never use violence.

This year, we reflect as an institution and see that our nation has sadly failed our chilGren. And through the work we do, we hope to not only raise hopes but sustain them.

We know that our government has failed but we won't, so with your help, we choose to remain committed to helping children in low income communities get access to quality education at no cost.
